Jim Thompson



Jim Thompson has been associated with Porteous, Hainkel & Johnson since 1973. He worked as a law clerk from 1973 until he graduated from Tulane Law School. He became a partner in 1979 and has participated in the management of the firm in various areas since 1980. In 2002, he was elected chairman of the management committee. From 1975 until present, Jim’s practice has included representation of numerous personal lines and commercial insurers. In the 1980’s, he was involved extensively in the defense of Pittsburgh Corning in the asbestos litigation. He tried the first asbestosis case in the Eastern District of Louisiana. His appellate work included the argument of cases in the Louisiana First, Fourth and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeal as well as the United States Fifth Circuit.
