HOWARD L. MURPHY is a partner in the law firm of Deutsch Kerrigan, L.L.P. He has maintained a litigation practice for 40 years, principally in the areas of commercial transportation, maritime and oilfield personal injury, premises liability, products liability, auto and commercial liability insurance, and contract disputes. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in communications from Loyola University, he worked as a broadcast news reporter at television stations in San Antonio and New Orleans. While reporting in New Orleans, he attended Loyola University Law School at night and received a juris doctorate degree in 1980. He is admitted to practice in all Louisiana state courts as well as the United States Supreme Court, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana. He has successfully tried cases throughout Louisiana, most of which were jury trials. He is devoted to pursuing compromise with resourcefulness and persistence. His aim is to blend the expertise he gained in broadcasting to carefully listen to and understand the factors affecting those who are the center of a story, with the expertise he developed in the practice of law to search for and identify pivotal circumstances that can yield fair and meaningful outcomes.
